I’m sure we’ve all had that dilemma. It’s the first of the new year; time to get in shape! Out come all the fitness ads across Facebook, Instagram, and your TV screen. Protein powders become front and center in the grocery stores. Most of us have tried the gym at some point in life. If you had stayed in the gym and it worked for you- then you wouldn’t be reading this right now, right? We start searching for answers and looking for that new “thing” that will give us the body of our dreams. Let me help you determine where to start. I’m going to explain to you the pros and cons of a gym membership versus home fitness programs from my perspective (a guy who has done both).
You decide this is your year! Time to make a change! “I’m actually going to do it this year!” you tell yourself. Okay, you find your local gym. First, they run you through a sales pitch about different levels of memberships… “this one includes tanning!” Once you’ve finally picked your membership level, then they say “You get one “free” personal training session!” That’s great you think to yourself. Time to sign on the dotted line. Oh, by the way, there is only a $50 deposit today… wish they would have mentioned that before! So by this time you’re in so deep you can’t back out. You sign away to a year contract, feeling a little more reluctant than anticipated. You get your little membership key tag, maybe a bumper sticker, and boom you’re in! You go out and buy some new work out clothes because you have to look fresh to deff in the gym. Now your ready. You walk in, scan your key tag, and all you see is an ocean of equipment. What does most of this stuff even do? Oh you see a treadmill- thank goodness something you recognize! So you jump on that and start off with a light jog. You work up a decent sweat and are ready to jump off that. Since you don’t know what most of this other stuff does— maybe you do some crunches and call it a day.
Then you remember you have that “free” personal training session. You go in and schedule that but the next opening they have is a week later! Great! 🙄 The day finally arrives when you meet your personal trainer. They show you all the fancy equipment. They show you what each thing does and then immediately start talking about the next session and what they can offer you. They say they are going to have the perfect personalized plan just for you. After everything is said and done, you have now signed yourself to a personal training package for hundreds of dollars.
I’m not saying there is anything wrong with any of that! But you have to realize it’s a business that wants your money. They will constantly try to up sell you. And I’m not saying the workouts will not work for you. I’m sure they will! Maybe not as fast as you want, so they can sell you on another personal training package… that is if you keep going. How many of us have been guilty of having the membership come out of your bank account and have been to the gym in months? I’m guilty.
I’m going to be talking about Beachbody home fitness programs specifically. You might be thinking What- you mean the ones you see infomercials for at 3am? Yup! There are so many advantages to working out at home. One of the biggest is you don’t have to leave your house! You don’t have to drive across town to get to the gym. You don’t have to wait for sweaty machines. You don’t have to worry about a locker or nasty gym showers. Beachbody makes it so simple. You can sign up for a 30 trial for Beachbody on Demand. You can stream all of there extensive work out library right to your device or TV. You think you can’t get a “real” workout at home, right? Wrong! There have been thousands of success stories from people just like you and me that have gotten real results from the Beachbody workouts. I’m one of those success stories. Beachbody is so successful simply because it works, and it’s real.
So let’s compare price. With Beachbody, what you see is what you get. You buy exactly what you want. No up selling. No sign up fees. Most importantly NO CONTRACTS! If you’re not sure what program is right for you then I recommend Beachbody on Demand. With BOD you get all of them! For some programs you don’t need any equipment. Just you and mother earth. For others, you will need to make an investment in some equipment such as dumb bells, resistance bands, a pull up bar, or maybe a yoga mat depending on the program. The difference is, when you make that first investment that equipment is yours for life. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune either. You can find great deals on these items on Craigslist or Facebook! I didn’t even mention nutrition. All Beachbody programs come with a nutrition guide that shows you step-by-step what to eat through all the phases of the programs. With a gym membership, you’re on your own! You remember that one “free “personal training session? Well Beachbody will give you a free (actually free) coach to give you guidance and answer any questions you have along the way. These are not personal trainers. These are people that started just like you- who have been on a journey and now would like to share their story and knowledge.
Simply put, Beachbody offers variety with fun and effective workouts that will get you in the best shape of your life by simply showing up, pushing play, and following the nutrition guides. These workouts will work for you if you work for them. The question you need to ask yourself is are you ready to put in the work to make the best version of you?
